Island Hvar
Immerse yourself in a sea of lavender
According to surveys, the island of Hvar is one of the ten most beautiful islands in the world. The renowned magazine Forbes names the sophisticated island in the same breath as the Bahamas, Hawaii and the Maldives.
The majority of the 13,000 inhabitants live from wine growing, fishing and, above all, tourism. This is particularly reflected in the west of the island. Here you will find excellent hotels, holiday flats and holiday homes in the town of the capital city and in Jelsa.
The island can look back on a long tradition and experience in tourism dating back to 1868. The first hotel on the island, the Zarin Elisabeth Spa Hotel, was built around 1903. However, the big breakthrough in tourism only came after the Second World War. Since then, the island has become increasingly popular with guests from all over the world, including many members of the international jet set. This can also be seen on a walk along the waterfront promenade of the capital city – the moorings are usually occupied by large yachts.
The island and the Pakleniki otoci archipelago in front of it offer their guests a secluded coastline, clean and beautiful beaches and a pleasant Mediterranean climate, which is particularly appreciated by holidaymakers with their own boat.
For active holidaymakers and bathers, the island offers numerous bays and countless hiking trails across the island and also across the island of Sv. Klement, which belongs to the Paklinski otoci. The sandy beach bay of Palmizana deserves special mention. The most popular destination for beach holidaymakers.
The average number of hours of sunshine per year is 2,726 – the most hours of sunshine for any island in Europe. Of course, this also has an effect on the water temperature. Between June and October, the water temperature is a pleasant 20° C. In addition, the pleasant summer wind Maestral usually blows, which is ideal for sailors and windsurfers.
Programme without fixed
On this holiday we simply set off without having a precise programme. Apart from the flight and hotel, nothing was booked. We did get a hire car, but unfortunately we were always ripped off. So it’s worth booking a hire car in advance so that this doesn’t happen. The hotel gave us flyers so that we could explore the area on our own. The best experience was the visit to the blue cave. After being a little startled by the small entrance and having to duck our heads, we were able to feel the magic in the blue cave. We first held our hands in to see if everything was real. Then we went into the green cave.
Another beautiful sight is the ‘most beautiful beach’ in Europe, as the locals call it. More precisely, it is the beach in the bay of Stiniva on the island of Vis. This beach is usually visited after the tours to the caves.

We felt very comfortable in our three-star hotel. The rooms were well furnished. The staff were very friendly. We ate in the neighbouring 4-star hotel. Overall, we were simply thrilled and can highly recommend it
